Ford F-150 Dashboard Light Guide
The Ford F-150 is one of the toughest and most reliable trucks on the road. Both drivers and businesses in Port Arthur and Nederland, TX, can count on it in any situation. Even the most durable truck needs maintenance and repairs once in a while, though. That’s why your dashboard lights are there to let you know when something needs service.

Warning vs Indicator Lights
Your pickup’s lights can range from friendly reminders to serious warnings. In addition to knowing the icons on the instrument cluster, it’s just as important to look at what color they are. For example, a light that’s white, blue, or green is just letting you know that a function like your high beams or Auto Start-Stop is on.
If a part or system has malfunctioned, you’ll see a yellow light. While they’re not urgent, you shouldn’t ignore them, either. Schedule service as soon as possible. On the other hand, red lights are a more serious warning. They usually require service immediately.
F-150 Dashboard Lights
So, what are some lights that you should be aware of? The F-150 includes lots of warning and indicator lights, but these are some of the ones you should be familiar with:
- Auto Start-Stop. This feature saves gas by automatically turning your engine off when you’re stopped in traffic. If you choose to leave it on, you’ll see a light that looks like an A inside a semi circle.
- Stability Control. When your Stability Control is active, you’ll see a light that looks like a car on a winding road. When it’s not on, you’ll see the same logo but with the word OFF underneath it.
- Anti-Lock Braking System. The letters ABS mean there’s a problem with your anti-lock braking system. Your main brakes will help you stop safely but get this looked at ASAP.
- Brake System Warning Light. You’ll see the word BRAKE on the dashboard when the parking brake is on. However, if it’s not on, but the light is, it means there’s a problem with your main brake system. Do not continue driving with faulty brakes.
- Battery System. If you’ve got a low battery or there’s a problem with the electrical system, you’ll see a light that looks like a car battery.
- Engine Oil Pressure. When you’re due for an oil change, your truck will remind you by using a light that resembles an old-fashioned oil can.
- Low Tire Pressure Warning. This light looks like a wheel with an exclamation mark. It comes on when one or more of your tires are low on air.
- Coolant Temperature. If your engine is overheating, you’ll see a light that looks like a thermometer. Pull over immediately and turn the engine off, so it can cool down.
- Service Engine Soon. Chances are, you know this light as the Check Engine light because it looks like your engine. There are a few things that can trigger it, so head to the service center right away.
