Ford F-250 vs Chevy 2500

Tough trucks, like the Ford F-250 and Chevrolet Silverado HD 2500, are designed to help you move a heavy trailer or manage a big payload. So, which truck is right for you? To help drivers and businesses in Port Arthur, Nederland, and Lake Charles decide, Town and Country Ford had them square off in this Ford F-250 vs. Chevy 2500 comparison.

Powertrains

Ford F-250

Ford F-250The Ford F-250 offers three powerful engines to help you get the job done. There are two capable gas-powered engines as well as a versatile diesel powertrain. The 6.7L Power Stroke® V8 Turbo Diesel offers the most power with up to 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. To manage this impressive engine, you’ll have a TorqShift® Heavy-Duty 10-speed Automatic Transmission with SelectShift™.

The Chevy Silverado HD 2500 can also provide you with lots of power, but it only gives you two engines to choose from. It does give you the option of traditional gas or diesel, though. While its diesel engine also comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission, it can’t produce as much power. Its Duramax 6.6L V8 Turbo-Diesel only offers up to 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque.

Towing Capacity

Ford F-250Both trucks can use that power to help you haul lots of heavy cargo. The Ford F-250 is capable of towing up to 20,000 pounds. The Chevy 2500 isn’t able to pull as much weight with a conventional towing capacity of just 14,500 pounds.

Each truck can also be configured for 5th-wheel/gooseneck towing. When it’s properly equipped, the Ford F-250 is able to haul up to 22,800 pounds. While the extra wheel can help the Chevy pull more weight, it still falls behind the F-250 by only being able to tow up to 18,500 pounds.

You’ll find camera systems on both trucks too. These will help you line up with your trailer and watch your trailer’s blind spot while you’re on the road. The Ford F-250 offers some additional features that will help you maneuver your trailer.

Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ makes it easy to unload or back your boat down a ramp. Just turn a dial on your dashboard in the direction that you want your trailer to go and your truck will steer it for you. The Chevy doesn’t offer anything like Pro Trailer Backup Assist™.

Payload

Each pickup can also carry lots of cargo in the truck bed. They both run on tough, durable suspensions and offer bedliners that will prevent dents and scrapes in your truck bed. Plus, each truck offers lots of amenities, such as cargo tiedowns and bed steps, to make loading and unloading easier.

Once again, though, the Ford is prepared to manage heavier cargo. The F-250 can carry a payload of up to 4,260 pounds. You won’t be able to load as much in the Chevy Silverado HD with its 3,965-pound payload capacity.
