Ford F-150 vs Toyota Tundra

Reliable trucks like the Ford F-150 and Toyota Tundra are built to offer a capable ride to everyone from families to businesses. They’re each ready to carry a heavy payload or tow a boat or trailer. So, which one has what you’re looking for in your next pickup?

Town and Country Ford can help drivers in Port Arthur, Nederland, and Lake Charles decide with this Ford F-150 vs. Toyota Tundra comparison.

Powertrains

The Ford F-150 offers six powerful engines. There’s an available 3.0L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel engine that gets up to 250 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque. You can also get best-in-class power and torque with a High-Output 3.5L EcoBoost® engine. It can deliver up to 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. Both powertrains work with a 10-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission.

Meanwhile, the Toyota Tundra only offers one engine. While it is powerful, it doesn’t give you any options. It’s also not as powerful as the high-output option found in the Ford. The standard 5.7L V8 can only get up to 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. You won’t have the same kind of capability, either, with its 6-speed automatic transmission.

Towing & Trailering

With all that power under the hood, the Ford F-150 is capable of towing up to 13,200 pounds. It’s designed for both conventional and 5th-wheel/gooseneck towing. Plus, it offers lots of features that’ll make towing more convenient.

It’s easy to line the truck up with your trailer using the Rear View Camera with Dynamic Hitch Assist. You’ll actually be able to see all around your trunk with the available 360-Degree Camera with Split-View Display. To provide you with a safer drive, Trailer Sway Control comes standard, while a Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®) with Trailer Coverage is available.

When it’s time to drop your cargo off or put your boat in the water, you can use Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ to position your trailer perfectly. Just turn a dial in the direction you need your trailer to go, and your truck will back up for you.

The Toyota Tundra also comes with Trailer Sway Control and offers a Blind Spot Monitor. However, it has a towing capacity of only 10,200 pounds and can’t be configured for 5th-wheel towing. Plus, there’s only one view available with the backup camera, and it doesn’t offer anything like Pro Trailer Backup Assist™.

Truck Bed & Payload

Both the Ford F-150 and Toyota Tundra come with a tough truck bed. You’ll be able to tie your payload down in each truck with locking cleats.

The Ford can help you by carrying a lot more, though. The F-150 manages a best-in-class payload of 3,270 pounds. The Toyota Tundra can only handle a payload of up to 1,730 pounds.
