Dependable pickups, such as the Ford F-150 and Toyota Tacoma, are built to get your gear through all sorts of driving conditions. So, which one has what you’re looking for? To help drivers in Port Arthur, Nederland, and Lake Charles decide, Town and Country Ford had them square off in this Ford F-150 vs. Toyota Tacoma comparison.

Performance Specs

The Ford F-150 delivers a dependable drive and offers six exciting powertrains. If you’re looking for best-in-class power in your truck, there’s a High-Output 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 engine that gets up to 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque.

There’s also an efficient option for diesel lovers. The 3.0L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel engine can deliver 250 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque. Both of these capable options work with a versatile 10-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission.

The Toyota Tacoma only offers two engines. Unfortunately, there’s no diesel option. Plus, its most powerful engine is a 3.5L V6 that can only get up to 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. It’s not as capable either with a 6-speed Electronically Controlled automatic Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i).

Towing Capacity

Whether you need to haul a boat to your vacation home or bring a trailer to a job site, the Ford F-150 has you covered. It uses its impressive power to tow up to 13,200 pounds when properly configured. To keep your cargo in line with your truck, Trailer Sway Control comes standard.

There are lots of features that make towing safer and easier for you. For example, the standard Rear-View Camera with dynamic hitch assist makes lining up with your trailer easy. You’ll be confident when changing lanes, too, thanks to the available Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®). It’s even easy to unload your cargo in the right spot. Just turn a dial in the direction you want to go, and Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ will steer your truck in the direction you want to go.

The Toyota Tacoma also comes with a rearview camera and offers both the Blind Spot Monitor and Trailer-Sway Control. However, it can only tow up to 6,800 pounds. Plus, it doesn’t offer any technology like Pro Trailer Backup Assist™.

Truck Bed & Payload

The Ford F-150 also features a truck bed that’s made from aluminum and a high-strength steel frame. It’s designed to carry a payload of up to 3,270 pounds. There are also some great amenities you can add, such as durable bed liners, ramps, and LED Box Lighting. The F-150’s truck bed is also available in three different sizes. You can choose between a 5.5-foot, 6.5-foot, and an 8-foot long truck bed.

The Toyota Tacoma can only manage a payload of up to 1,685 pounds. In addition to carrying less cargo, it also offers fewer options with only two truck bed sizes to choose from.
