Ford Explorer Maintenance Schedule
SUVs like the Ford Explorer are built to last. With so much cargo room and so many safety features, it’s the kind of SUV that your family can rely on from little league ‘til the kids go off to college. To make sure your SUV is with you for the long haul, it’s important to keep up with your routine maintenance. So, how often do you need to take your SUV in for maintenance anyway?
Energy Country Ford finds out. To help families in Port Arthur and Nederland, TX know when to schedule an appointment, and show you what kind of work is being done, we’ve put together a quick run-down of the Ford Explorer maintenance schedule.
Every 10,000 Miles
Your Ford Explorer should come in for maintenance every 10,000 miles. Whether you drive a brand-new car, or you’ve got a reliable used Explorer, coming in this frequently will make sure your SUV is in top shape.
During this appointment, you’ll get a routine oil change. A technician will also perform a multi-point inspection. This includes looking over some of the most important parts and systems and checking them for signs of wear and tear.
First, they’ll look at the tire tread. If it’s still in good condition, they’ll rotate your tires. If it’s too worn down, they’ll give you a new set of tires. While they’re down there, technicians will also inspect your brake pads to see if they need to be replaced.
The entire brake system get looked at, too. That includes the brake lines and brake fluid levels. Some of the other things they’ll inspect include the exhaust system, the front and rear axles, suspension, ball joints, fuel cooling system, and the wheel alignment.
Every 20,000 Miles
The next time you come back in, your SUV will need another oil change and get another multi-point inspection. On top of all that, your Explorer will also get a new cabin air filter.
Every 30,000 Miles
During your next trip to the service center, your Ford Explorer will get another new filter. This time technicians will need to replace your engine air filter. Your SUV will also get another oil change and another multi-point inspection.
Every 100,000 Miles
By sticking with your recommended maintenance schedule, your Explorer should have no problem putting 100,000 miles on the odometer. By the time you pass the century mark, it’ll be running like a well-oiled machine.
Once again, your SUV will get an oil change and a multi-point inspection. This time the inspection involves taking a closer look at the accessory drive belts. Plus, to get you set for another 100,000 miles, technicians will replace your spark plugs and give you new coolant.
Every 150,000 Miles
After you travel another 50,000 miles, your Explorer will need to have its accessory drive belt replaced. It’ll also need new automatic transmission fluid. To keep your SUV going for many more miles, technicians will be sure to give it another routine oil change and inspection, too.
