Ford Bronco Dashboard Light Guide

Ford BroncoThe Ford Bronco is a dependable SUV that’s built to last. While it’s ready for anything, it’ll still need to visit the service center from time to time. To tell you when, it uses dashboard lights, but what do they mean?

Town and Country Ford put this Ford Bronco dashboard light guide together to help drivers in Port Arthur and Nederland, Texas, and Lake Charles, Louisiana, figure out what your SUV is trying to tell you.

Green Lights

The green lights on your dashboard are there to remind you that a feature or function has been activated and is currently working. You’re probably familiar with a few of the ones that come on as soon as you start your engine. A couple of the most common green lights are:

  • Cruise Control LightCruise Control/Adaptive Cruise Control—Once you turn cruise control on, you’ll see a light that looks like the odometer. Since Adaptive Cruise Control maintains your speed and watches the car in front of you, its icon includes both the odometer and a car.
  • Auto Start/Stop—If the Auto Start/Stop function is on, you’ll see the letter A inside a semi-circle. You should also hear and feel the engine turn off when you come to a complete stop and turn on once you press down on the pedal.

Yellow Lights

Yellow lights are a different type of indicator light. They activate when there’s a malfunction. While these aren’t urgent problems, you shouldn’t ignore them, either. Schedule service if you notice any of these yellow lights:

  • Tire LightMalfunction Indicator—Many drivers know this as the check engine light because it looks like your engine. While it can be triggered by several issues under the hood, it’s usually a sign of trouble with your emissions system.
  • Tire Pressure Monitor System—If any of the tires, including the spare, have low air pressure, you’ll see the TPMS light flash. It looks like a misshaped tire rolling down the road.
  • ABS—This icon looks like the letters ABS inside a circle. When illuminated, it’s a sign there’s a problem with your anti-lock braking system. You can still count on your main brakes to help you stop and slow down but should get these looked at as soon as you can.

Red Lights

While green lights are a harmless indicator and yellow lights indicate a malfunction, red lights indicate a more serious matter. These warning lights are for service problems that need to be dealt with right away. A few of the red warning lights that you should be aware of include:

  • Oil LightOil Pressure Warning—An oil change is a basic maintenance job, but if you’re overdue for one, it can damage your engine. If you’re low on oil, you’ll eventually see a light that looks like an old-fashioned oil can.
  • Charging System—A light that looks like your car battery is a sign that either your battery is low, or you’ve got a faulty alternator. Rather than pulling over, head straight to the service center. If you turn your engine off, you may not be able to start your SUV again.
  • Engine Temperature—If you’re ever low on coolant or your engine starts to overheat, a light that looks a thermometer will be there to warn you.
  • Brake Warning Light—When you see the word BRAKE on your dashboard, this means your main brakes are faulty. Pull over and call a tow truck right away.
