The Ford Explorer features room for the whole family. There are three rows of seats and standard seating for up to seven people. Everyone can get comfortable during the drive too with 152.7 cubic feet of passenger room.

Specs & Towing Capacity

The Ford Explorer offers two powerful gas-powered engines. Both engines work with a versatile 10-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift® capability. The wide range of gears can help you through tough conditions, get your trailer to the top of a hill, and make your drive more fun by allowing to take control of the transmission.

The base powertrain is a turbocharged 2.3L EcoBoost® I-4 engine that gets up to 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. It’s also designed to run smoothly and efficiently with Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT). While rear-wheel drive comes standard, Intelligent 4WD is also available. With either drivetrain, this engine gives your SUV the ability to tow up to 5,300 pounds.

The second gas-powered engine is a twin turbocharged 3.0L EcoBoost® V6. It has Intelligent 4WD and gets up to 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. The added power also lets you haul some extra cargo with a maximum towing capacity of up to 5,600 pounds.

Safety Features

To give you peace of mind throughout your drive, the Ford Explorer is loaded with safety features. It protects everyone on board with several airbags, including a front passenger knee airbag and a Safety Canopy® System that covers all three rows of seats.
